One of the most diverse suburbs in Sydney, Chatswood is a bit of a cultural hothouse and has something for everyone. It's a little like the North Shore's version of a posh Chinatown and if you're looking for quality Asian cuisine this is definitely the place to be. But it's not all about the food; its little laneways are a real drawcard, with attention-grabbing street art transforming what would otherwise be ordinary commuter spaces into colourful and interesting attractions.

The suburb is a major employment hub and has an excellent public transport network. The Chatswood Interchange is a major bus and train hub with lines connecting to the CBD, Sydney Airport and Lane Cove. The North Shore Line connects Chatswood to the city and suburbs, while the Chatswood-Epping line connects to Epping and Hornsby.

Chatswood has a number of schools catering to students of all ages and the central area is home to an organic farmers market on Saturday mornings. The Garden of Remembrance is another highlight and was designed using briar roses that were originally grown from the surviving bushes of the battlefields of World War 1.

A good choice of accommodation is available in Chatswood with apartments, hotels and resorts scattered throughout the area. The 3.5-star Quest Chatswood is a short walk from the train station and features kitchens, flatscreen TVs and free Wi-Fi access. The hotel also offers an on-site laundry and babysitting/child services.

For a more luxurious option try the 5-star Chatswood Park Hotel. It's also a short stroll from the train station and offers an in-house spa, sauna and fitness center as well as free Wi-Fi, a flatscreen TV and minibar. The hotel also has a 24-hour restaurant and bar.

There are plenty of shopping opportunities in Chatswood, with the sprawling Westfield Chatswood the most popular. The centre is anchored by department store chain brands and there are over 500 specialty stores as well, plus a wide range of restaurants.

Other big name shopping centres include Chatswood Mall and The Concourse, both of which are connected to the railway station. Chatswood Mall has an extensive food court and is a great spot to find a bargain or simply sit down and relax.

Chatswood is also home to a number of parks and forest reserves. In the north of the suburb lies Ferndale Park which is a natural reserve with walking tracks and a golf course. It's a good place to see local wildlife, including the powerful owl, barking owl and eastern whipbird. Other parks in the area are Lady Game Park, Fullers Bridge and Chatswood Central Park.
